4th Grade Portfolio... More to Come
School-wide Self Portrait Mural
Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky, students created an abstract work by adding different shapes and lines to their neighbors' artwork in a round robin style. They also learned about the term mixed media: when artists use different types of materials on one work. On these, students used crayons, colored pencils, markers, oil pastels, and paint.

Inspired by the falling leaves outside, 4th graders learned to draw a variety of leaves and bring them to life by layering colors of oil pastels. We imagined the leaved falling onto a calm lake or stream and listened to soothing music as we worked.

In 4th grade, we learned about the American artist Wayne Thiebaud and his love of painting everyday items, especially from diners and bakeries. Inspired by his paintings, students created hallow cupcake containers. We used two different techniques: a pinch pot for the base, then a coil method for the frosting. Stay tuned to see them when they are painted!

With paint and a coat of clear glaze, these cupcakes look good enough to eat!

Inspired by our school-wide "words of the week" and the artist Keith Haring, 4th graders chose a word to illustrate in his iconic style. This was also paired with a discussion about how all of the past words of the week could be applied to our time in the art room.
