6th Grade Portfolio... More to Come
School-wide Self Portrait Mural
6th graders learned about "analogous colors" which are colors next to each other on the color wheel, usually in a group of three. They had the option to choose their group of analogous colors that would be fit into the school-wide project.

Inspired by Paul Klee, 6th graders took something familiar (their name) and turned it into an abstract work: something not realistic, more about shapes and colors. They also learned about cubism: work made of flat geometric shapes, and expressionism: art focused on color and emotion.

6th graders learned about the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead and the sugar candy skulls that have gained popularity in the United States. Students molded and decorated a skull and then created a decorative tile for it to be placed on.

6th grade students learned about radial symmetry and how many cultures across the world use this type of symmetry in their artwork and architecture. To create these beautiful radial designs, they drew up a piece of their "pie" then traced it around the whole circle.

6th graders were asked to come up with a campaign for a new mascot for Ridge Hill School. They have been working hard in groups to come up with a poster as well as a persuasive writing piece that they will read over morning announcements. The whole school will be voting the first week of March, and we're looking forward to our new mascot!

Inspired by artwork I created in 6th grade, students created an abstract self portrait. Using "slabs" or flat layers of clay, they created at least 3 levels of work as well as areas where they carved out details.

6th graders learned about Optical Illusion art or "Op Art". To create this cool effect, students measured out a grid for the background, and then learned how to make a grid on a circle shape to give the illusion that it is not flat. The finishing touch was some smudged charcoal around the circle as a shadow
